A popular pasture tax? Saving Mongolia’s valuable grasslands from crisis

17 May 2018 – Reducing livestock numbers and increasing the health and resilience of herds is the key to conserving Mongolia’s grasslands. An initiative to reform an outdated and non-operational tax system for collecting fees from livestock owners is gaining traction and support from stakeholders. The UNDP managed Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) is supporting the Mongolian government to assess the most beneficial structures for a reformed pasture use tax.
