WTO Public Forum: Session on fossil fuel subsidies reform

October 10, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Moderated by Dr Walker (Ambassador of New Zealand to the WTO), the panel included Rachel Bae (Senior Counsellor at the OECD), Crispin Conroy (Representative Director at the International Chamber of Commerce) and Steven Stone (Chief of the Resources and Markets Branch at UN Environment). Panelists stressed that the process of phasing out fossil fuel subsidies should be among others: tailored to developing countries’ conditions, inclusive of the private-sector, contextualized within concerns for climate change and SDG implementation, and backed by a standardized way of reporting. Read the full report of the event here, visit the WTO website for more information on the Forum, and consult the UN agreed methodology for fossil fuel reporting.
