This UN Environment study addresses marine litter which is a pressing and growing global environmental challenge. It also represents an economic opportunity as preventing marine litter can enable materials and their value to remain in a circular economy. The toolkit of measures for addressing marine litter includes research and development, regulation, direct investments, awareness-raising tools, clean up measures as well as several market-based instruments (e.g. deposit-refund schemes or product charges).
